Day 3. Stanley to Strahan
We had a nice meal in the hotel restaurant last night followed by a sprint to our cottage through the horizontal rain. We fell asleep to the sound of the wind howling and the rain beating on the window.
Our accommodation
This morning dawned fine, the wind has moderated a bit but quite cold.
We wandered around the town and took in the sights, many of the little workers cottages date from the late 1800’s and have been beautifully restored and are all let out as tourist accommodation.
After a nice breakfast in a cafe overlooking the harbour we packed the bike and headed away.
The Nut - behind the village of Stanley.
Stiff wind and squally showers for most of the day, in normal circumstances the roads would be excellent motorcycling roads but today they are wet and slippery and covered in forest detritus from the gale force winds of yesterday.
We pulled into Murchison for gas only to be turned away as they had no power. A. It further down the road we stopped for a coffee in possibly the smallest cafe ever, 6 of us was a crowd. There were another couple of bikers there so we chatted to them and discovered we could get gas about 20km further up the road, phew.
We arrived in Strahan a bit cold and miserable, we didn’t expect this extreme weather and can think of a couple of items in our wardrobe at home that would have been useful. Ah well the joys of motorcycling.
Strahan is a pretty little place and very touristy.
Almost all the cafes were closed due to the power outages so we have settled on lamb vindaloo from the local dairy to heat up in our microwave.
Hopefully our power will stay on.

Wow , some challenging riding by the sounds of things , but nothing you guys aren’t used to or up for !!
